Third graders will be studying the art and architecture of the amazing Notre Dame Cathedral in France. Students will be introduced to radial symmetry, and create their own radial symmetry patterns inspired by the stained-glass Rose Windows.
For our first project in Unit 3, third graders will be exploring the style of the Art Nouveau movement. Students will discuss the characteristics of Art Nouveau using learned art elements and principles. Students will design their own Nouveau tile using their own initial. Students will apply new knowledge of color value and color schemese to complete the composition. For our first project of Unit 1 3rd graders will be creating paintings of their favorite dessert! This project is inspired by well-known artist, Wayne Theibaud. We will discuss Theibaud's life and artistic style. Students will be introduced to different perspective techniques to make a flat drawing look like it has 3D space in it. Students will also apply color contrast theory, as well as drawing, painting, and craftsmanship skills . **IMPORTANT**: This artwork will be used for the Square 1 Art Fundraiser this year, which is due October 4th. So, if your child is absent from Art before the due date PLEASE take advantage of Open Studio hours so that your child will have a piece for the fundraiser. During the first couple weeks of school all students will become familiar with the art room rules and expectations. We will discuss and practice procedures in the art room so we can maximize our learning time throughout the year. Students will also be making their very own sketchbooks which they will use almost every day in art for taking notes, sketching ideas, practicing skills, and many more fun activities! Sketchbooks are important for artists to record their thoughts and ideas, and our sketchbooks will become a very special profile of the year's art learning! |
