For our first project of Unit 1 2nd graders will be creating silhouette
paintings of birds inspired by Atlanta-based artist, Kara Walker. Students will
view images of Walker's artwork and discuss their observations. Students will
learn what a silhouette is and how it is created, as well as understand why
using silhouettes in art can emphasize different elements of the piece.
Students will also apply knowledge of color theory to make decisions in their
artwork, while practicing good work habits and craftsmanship in their
paintings.
**IMPORTANT**:
This artwork will be used for the Square 1 Art
Fundraiser this year, which
is due October 4th. So, if your
child is absent from Art
before the due date PLEASE take advantage of Open Studio hours so that your child will have a
piece for the
fundraiser.
